About TYWLS of Brooklyn

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

The Young Women's Leadership School of Brooklyn (TYWLS Brooklyn) is a single-gender New York City public school established in 2008 with the support of Student Leadership Network. TYWLS Brooklyn is part of a national network of girls' schools - including six TYWLS in NYC - implementing Student Leadership Network’s Young Women’s Leadership model and WholeGirl+ Education Framework. This approach nurtures the intellectual curiosity and creativity of young women by supporting the 'whole girl' in order to maximize academic achievement, social emotional well-being, and postsecondary success. The school approaches learning in a dynamic, participatory fashion, encouraging students to take responsibility for their own learning.

Additionally, we are a CollegeBound Initiative (CBI) school creating high expectations and viable pathways for postsecondary success for our middle and high school students. Our first graduating class was in 2013. We take great pride in the rigor of our curriculum, the quality of our instruction, and the performance of our students. TYWLS strives to instill in students a sense of self-efficiency and community responsibility, characteristics which will support them as they become the leaders of the next generation.

TYWLS Brooklyn has created a community of lifelong learners and has been working towards preparing students from underserved communities and students of color from diverse backgrounds for college and other post-secondary success. TYWLS Brooklyn is committed to nurturing the intellectual curiosity and creativity of young women and addressing their developmental needs. The school community enables students to experience great success at many levels, especially in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Students are supported to achieve their personal best in and out of  school. TYWLS Brooklyn instills in our students a sense of community, responsibility, and ethical principles of behavior that will help make them leaders of their generation, today and tomorrow. We also work with the families of our students to develop meaningful partnerships.
